Affects on cell signaling
Inflammatory mediators such as histamine and adenosine have been implicated in the pathogenesis and produce their effects by activating specific cell surface receptors. Activation of these receptors can lead to bad things happening in the lungs and air pathways.It can even release intercellular calcium ions which can lead to the over production of this substance.


How to control asthma
There are a couple different medications that you can use to prevent the symptoms of asthma. Inhaled corticostroids is taken in the form of mist and is used to prevent the airways in your respiratory system from swelling up. Long acting beta-agonist inhalers relax the smooth muscles to prevent symptoms as well. Cromolyn is another medication taken through an inhaler to prevent asthma symptoms.
What is Asthma?
A long term disease that has no cure but can be maintained by the use of certain drugs. Asthma attacks occur when you breath in a certain substance that triggers this to happen. The substance that triggers this reaction is different for everyone. It can be dust, pets, outdoor air pollution, mold, or other substances. These things trigger the airways to react and the muscles around the airways to tighten. By this happening the airway narrows and makes breathing harder. By taking medication it inhibits this reaction from occurring.Figure A shows the location of the lungs and airways in the body. Figure B shows a cross-section of a normal airway.  Introduction
Asthma is a mostly genetically inherited disease that affects the lungs and the air pathways. 25 million people in America alone are affected by this disease and 7 million of these people are kids. Most people develop asthma in childhood but it is possible to develop it later on in life.
