Hardy Weinberg Stuff

Hardy Weinberg plan
  • I will be calculating the probability of a child inheriting sickle cell anemia if both parents
carry the trait but are not affected by it.
  • By using a punnett square there is a 25% chance of the child not inheriting the sickle cell
disease at all, 50% chance of the child inheriting it but not being affected by it, and 25% of the child inheriting the disease and being affected by it.
  • Then by using the hardy weinberg equation with a google spread sheet, i can find the
probability of the next generations inheriting sickle cell anemia.

  • P represents the dominant allele which means the person does not have the trait.
  • Q represents the recessive allele which means the person carries the sickle cell anemia trait.
  • I made the dominant trait .75 and the recessive trait .25. By doing this the sickle cell anemia trait continued to stay low throughout the generations.
